Hi
I've just brought a speedboat fitted with an 1980s Suzuki 60hp 2 stroke Elpto which has had very minimal usage over the last couple of years.
On taking it out for the first time on a local river (speed limited to 8knots) my passengers complained of getting headaches from the exhaust fumes.
Any suggestions as to what might be causing this and how to rectify?

Re: Excessive exhaust fumes

Is it fuming around the powerhead and out of the lower cowling? If it is I has this problem with an early Yamaha. It was the exhaust cowling in the leg.
It had corrosion as in pitted holes in it. It was very easy to get fixed

Just an idea.
Cheers
Snapperman

You didn't say if it had oil injection or if you are mixing it at 50 to 1. Change brand of oil. I find the smell of pennzoil semi synthetic tolerable.
