How would one go about checking the exaust/ riser flaps to insure they are funtional? What are some symtoms of, or repercussions of, bad flap(s).

Re: exaust/ riser check?

You will need to take off the rubber connector tube from the riser to the ypipe.Depending on the setup you have the shudder should be right at the top of the tube. They should have a silicone cover along the outside and they should open and close fairly easily. They are easy to replace if you need to.Many here choose to run w/o them but I would never. There is no advantage to not having them ,and having them could prevent water from backing into the exhaust and causing a catastrophe to the motor.Charlie

Is this all I will need to look for in inspecting the exaust system? I have looked at the bellows and they look good. All rubber connectors are good. No outside rust. V6 4.3l OMC (GM) 1987 cobra outdrive.
