Hi, I'm a new boy(old at 53!!)to boats so forgive my ignorance.
I've been offered an Evinrude 125 Starflite with electric start which I haven't had a chance to go see yet.
The owner has no information about the engine at all and thinks it's a 125HP but I've been told from the model code, 125193c, it's a 12.5HP.
He brought it as a non-runner with electrical problems ---- Can anyone shed any light on this engine eg engine size, year of manufacture, reliabilty?
Cheers
Gerry

Re: evinrude year & info

Drummer--I had a 1970 Evinrude Starflight on a 17 foot Caravelle some years ago. I was worried about the electric shift system, but it never failed me. The engine always started and ran strong. Mine had an electronic power pack which seemed kind of sensitive--I accidently fried it twice and they run about $400 apiece. I also had an overheat problem which shut down the engine. It was caused by improper timing which was related to the points. I guess some of the newer motors don't have points. The mechanics on this board can clarify that. Overall, though, I had a pretty good experience with mine, both at sea level and Lake Tahoe, although it ran a little rich at that altitude. Good luck.
