Evinrude won't start

We got this Evinrude 6HP 2cyl motor from my father two years ago. When he had it, it ran like a charm. We haven't been able to get it started at all since we've had it. We have no manual for it either. It's been sitting for two years without being started. Any ideas as to what may be the problem? Thanks.<br /><br />------------------<br />richmir

Knowing the year & model is a great place to start when trying to assist with your "no start" problem. If you don't know the year, then try to find then post the engine's serial number...it's usually on a plate riveted on the outside of the engine.

Hey, Rich. Have you:<br />Purged and cleaned your fuel system, including fuel pump and carb?<br /><br />Cleaned your spark plugs and checked to see that they "fire" when you turn her over?<br /><br />Offered her fresh, 87 octane, unleaded petrol mixed at 50:1 with TC-W3 grade oil?<br /><br />If so, tell us what you found. Outboard engines in general, are very easily gummed up but fortunately are very easy to dissassemble and clean. <br />Varify that you are getting spark and if you are then go for cleaning the carb.
