Re: evinrude trolling motor

Does the motor or foot control have a switch on it that is labeled 12v/24v. If it does, it can run on EITHER 12 OR 24 volts. Just because the boat is wired for 12 or 24 volt operation, does not mean the motor can be. If the batteries are wired in parallel, this is a 12 volt motor.

My manual describes the model BF4TP as a 24 Volt Foot Controlled 56 Lbs Thrust, 36" shaft length. If this description fits your motor it's maximum current draw is 29 Amps' variable speed control and weighs 31 Pounds. Hope this helps.

Re: evinrude trolling motor

Many boats were wired for use with 12 or 24 motors (or 12/24 dual voltage motors). Two wires from each battery were then run to the receptacle at the bow. The mating plug has provisions for 12 or 24 volts and the series connection was made within the plug. Whether a motor is 12 or 24 volts makes no difference. It still has only two wires going to the motor from the plug. Some dual voltage motors did have three wires however. Red, Orange and Black. Red-Black = 24v. Orange-Black = 12V.

Have your batteries load tested to ensure they are capable of actually "holding a charge".
