Re: EVINRUDE TRIM PROBLEMS
The up mode is absolute hydraulic pressure on the tilt/trim pistons.

The down mode, pertaining to tilt, depends on gravity for the engine to lower in the tilt down mode (not the trim down mode).

There are times when the steering tube becomes too tight for the engine to drift down in the down mode. When this tight steering tube scenario takes place (engine is fully tilted up), the PTT electric motor runs normally but instead of the engine lowering, the "Trim Rams" pull in first, then when the trim rams are fully retracted, hydraulic pressure is exerted on the top of the tilt cylinder piston forcing the tilt cylinder to lower the engine regardless of the tight steering tube.

If the above applies.... loosening one of the steering tube nuts 1/2 turn, greasing the two associated fittings, and spraying the moving joint areas with WD40 or some such substance usually cures the problem.
