Hey guys,
I have a 1963 10hp Evinrude. I Just replaced my coils and now that I am putting everything back together I have discovered my throttle disc is so tight I can barely move it. From the lever it is impossible and it is a strain to do it by hand but it does move. Does anyone have any suggestions how to loosen it up or has anyone came across this issue beofre? Any suggestions would be huge. Thanks!

I guess another name for this is the stator...Im obviously new to this. How would I remove it so I can see why it is binding up? I dont want to just hook a gear puller up to it and start cranking. Any tips would be helpful!

Sounds as if your new coils are not positioned properly. The outer edges need to be flush with the bosses they are seated on.Slakenthe retaining bolts and tap them inward a couple of thou at a time until the flywheel rotates freely, but no more than is necessary.

I agree, if the problem is when the flywheel is installed. If it won't rotate when the flywheel is off, something else is wrong. Perhaps the shifter interlock is jammed?

BTW, the correct name for that thing is "armature plate".

Re: Evinrude Throttle disc Too Tight

Hey guys thanks for the advice! Its great to know there is a place everyone can go to get advice from others who know a little bit more about what they are doing. I actually figured it out last night. I tightend the bolts that go down through the coils that hold on the armature plate too tight. As soon as I loosened them up the plate moved freely again. I guess I decided to turn my brain off after being at work all day. Thanks again for the help! I'm sure I will be back on here soon.
Thanks, JCF
