my current boat has a 50 hp sizzler and it runs well. my question is what is the difference between this engine and say a normal 50 hp. ive heard some conflicting answers

No difference just different paint and graphics for the consumer model. There were race versions that are different.

J/E came up with lots of names for outboards over the years,javilen,golden javilen,hustler,triumph,intruder etc.

I don't remember merc doing that I believe.Could be wrong though.Any merc I ever owned was just 450,650 9.8 200.Most likely j/e was just following the auto mfg.Stupid piece of unrelated trivia ,do you know what name was the longest lived in auto,s?

The ambassador name plate was used continually from 1927 to 1974.Looks like speeditwin has been used by evinrude from around 1927 to into the 1960,s in one form or another.

What about Mercury's lightning,Hurricane and thunderbolt models. Also the Mark models.

True,i couldn't remember for the life of me about mercury names atall.Use to have only mercs years ago then I discovered j/e and never looked back,lol.No complaints about the merc though.My fav was a merc 40hp circa 1960-62? white and smooth as butter.
