Hello, I have a 40HP, lark 10, 1968, with ele. shift, and ele. choke, starter and generator. There is a wire on the bottom of the starter solenoid that does not show in my diagram. It shows continuity between this wire post to the post the starter wire is connected to.
Does anybody know if this is needed, and where it is supposed to connect to? HELP PLEASE!!!!

Re: Evinrude outboard wiring problem

Do you mean the 4th post on the solenoid? A little post, right? Not the one that goes to the ignition switch?
If so, it's supposed to connect to the base of the cutout switch, which should be connected (with a wire, that's why it's insulated) to the saftey cutout switch. The cutout switch grounds the terminal (closes) when the engine is at less than 1/3 throttle. It's to prevent you from starting the engine at too high a throttle. If you don't care about this, simply wire the extra post to ground.

If that's the wire your talking about, that is. :)
Good luck!
