Evinrude Outboard Siezed?

I have a 1980 2hp Evinrude. Finished rebuilding the starter. Now when I pull the starter, motor won't move. When I try and turn the prop, it's not moving either. I removed the spark plug to see if that made a difference, it did not.

Thoughts?

Thanks

shoot some penetrating oil down the cylinder let it soak for a few days then, put a breaker bar & socket on the flywheel nut and see if you can get it to free up.

A stuck gearcase will freeze up the works also......may not be the powerhead.....remove the lower unit and try again if an initial penetrating oil trick fails.

Don't use a breaker bar on the flywheel nut. It could mess up the nut torque. Get yourself a strap wrench. As said above, take the gearcase off and then try it.

Re: Evinrude Outboard Siezed?

I assume it was running fine before you rebuilt the starter?? Sometimes when putting a starter back on it can become misaligned. Try taking the starter back off and then turning the prop. If it rotates then you know the problem is with the alignment of the starter...
