Evinrude no spark

I hope someone can help me with this. I am an automotive mechanic by trade but I don't have an understanding of magneto ign. systems. I have a 88 120hp V4 on a Malibu 182. I had been underway the other day and noted the engine surged a couple of times. Then when I was idling the motor quit. There is now no spark at any spark plugs. I followed a thread from another problem posted here on this BB and disconnected the big red plug on the port side of the engine and cranked over to discount the key switch and kill switch-still no spark. I was supplied a (new)power pak by the prev owner who said he bought it to fix another problem that it didn't resolve (it turned out to be a coil). installed this power pak-still no spark. There is a 2-wire plug with brown wires to the magneto. There are 2 main plugs that go to the magneto. 1-4 wire plug and 1-5 wire plug with matching colors except the 5 wire plug has a white wire. There is continuety to the matching wires in each plug with 160 ohms resistance (infinite to ground) except for the white wire-no cont. to anything including ground. My Seloc manual doesn't seem to match my system (it says there are 2 power paks-not)!
Is anyone familiar with this system to help me through this? Or if someone has a proper wiring diag. I could maybe figure this out myself.

Check this out and see if it helps you?web page

Also check to see if you have fire with the sparkplugs out. Make sure you have full cranking speed.

Re: Evinrude no spark

I pulled out the plugs and cranked it- still no spark. I found a wiring diag today and I seem to have an open circut through the stator. I will pull off the flywheel tomorrow and yard that stator out of there and check it more closely
