I have a 1995 Evinrude 70 hp 2 stroke motor from my old boat with low hours and runs great. I bought a new 2002 Bass Tracker V16 Superguide boat with Mercury controls / cables and wiring off Ebay. Is there any way to use the Mercury wiring / cables and controls currently on the boat with my Evinrude motor or do I have to rewire and change the control box? Thanx RT.

Howdy, katybobber.

Welcome aboard. :)

I think you need OMC controls, cables and harness.

Good luck. :)

Re: Evinrude motor / Mercury controls?

I have seen control cables that were Mercury on the control end and Johnson/Evinrude on the motor end,but I think they are no longer made. The electric harness won't plug in,and you could hard wire it,but I think it'll lead to problems down the road. And then you have to deal with the control itself.does it have the proper throw to engage the gears properly?

If you have the old evinrude control,et al,just swap it over.If not you'll probably need $300.00 to send to Bombardier for new stuff. You might go aftermarket for controls, and save a bit,but OEM controls have a feel they can't duplicate, and wiring will still be a problem.

Good luck !
