I have an opportunity to purchase this motor. It is I'm told a spare Coast Guard motor with only around 10 hours on it, mostly testing in fresh water. Below is the information I know based on model # provided by seller. Serial # is G02959591. The information is from Evinrude.com model look up chart. Photo included below. If in fact this is an almost new 23 yr old motor, any ideas on how much I should pay? Any idea how much it weighs? Would it be too much motor for a 16' hull? I welcome all input!! Thanks

Re: Evinrude: MODEL # E155WTLEIB Looking for information on this motor.

That engine is a commercial motor, built for moving heavy boats, barges. One of the crossflow motors. Not really considered a normal consumer-type engine. These commercial engines may have lower compression heads, even reduced timing so that the engine can used lower octane fuels-normally available overseas. The biggest problem in my mind is the lower unit. The gear in that lower unit is a .654 ratio, vs the normal consumer V6 engines which use the more traditional .54 ratio. It is possible that the lower unit gearcase is somewhat larger, too-due to the gearset inside. Basically, this engine is made to push displacement-speed barges all day long and not overheat. I don't doubt that you could use this on a normal consumer's boat, but you will have some really odd pitch props to make it perform normally in a consumer application. This engine weighs 402 lbs and would be a LOT of engine for a small 16' boat. It's unlikely the boat is rated for that much hp.

Re: Evinrude: MODEL # E155WTLEIB Looking for information on this motor.

Thank you emdsapmgr for all the very useful information. I have decided not to buy this motor, though I believe it is a great deal for the right person. I'm looking for a good fishing motor for my 16', not to sink it!! I though it might be to heavy, didn't consider the HP, your right, that would be a lot of motor!! Thanks again.
Anyone interested in this motor can be see it at ****155 Evinrude******* someone will want this!! (hope it's OK for me to post this link) By the way, the motor is in California
