My son bought an old Evinrude Lightwin 4hp. We need to figure out what year and fuel mix. The serial number is 4406RC71985.<br /><br />Can anyone help?<br /><br />Thanks

1974 4hp fuel mix is 50:1

Sorry it looks like you added the model number to the serial number.

Can you tell that by just looking at the model number or do you have to reference some material?

If it were my 4hp, I would richen up the oil a bit. Those 4hp are notorious for tossing rods out the crankcase, due in large part to lack of oil. They didn't have steel bearings on the crank journals and really weren't happy with the 50:1 mix. I run min at 32:1 and they're quite happy with that...<br />- Scott
