Hiya,

well... more info would be helpful..

what year/model # do you have?
does it turn over, or is it seized?
does it have good compression?
does it have spark?
gas hose, tank vent, bulb are OK?
did it ingest sand? (maybe overheated?)
did he accidently pull the kill switch lanyard off? (would cause no spark)

lot's of folks here will help if you provide as much info as possible, if you don't already have a service manual, now would be a good time for one... Maybe you could suggest it as an early "father-in-law's day" present. ;)

Brent

Re: Evinrude hooped

argh. Obviously seized is not good. You might try pulling the lower unit off to make sure that it's not a bearing/gear in the LU that has locked up the driveshaft. If the powerhead is still seized with LU off, then you could pull the head to get an idea of how bad it is. I guess how it looks would determine what to do next. Rebuilding is an option of course, but it's a matter of whether you'd be better off buying a whole different motor and either selling yours as parts (e.g. lower unit, starter etc) or keeping it as a parts donor.

Brent

Thanks Brent. I was told the powerhead is shot so will try to take it apart. I may just take it in.
