evinrude confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!please help the 4ths almost here

1977 evinrude 115hp<br />manuel shift <br />{lower unit}<br />i am trying to remove the inside unit the one thats around the prop shaft what is the proper way to do this , i was told to remove it with a slammer hammer with a hook on the webbing but it seems to be stuck. the inside 4 bolts with o'rings have been removed and prop also is there any thing else to take off or remove before this thing will come out so i can replace the seals thats up in there.

I doubt the slide hammer deal will work. The bearing carrier puller is only one of the special tools you will need.<br /><br />Good luck!

I have used a regular flyweel puller, and instead <br />of using regular bolts, used threaded rod and bent the ends into "J" shapes to grab the bearing housing legs, (3).

Lawnboy, You really should consider a repair manual.<br />It seems an unecessary expense but saves money in the long run.<br /> Try the library,The tab at the top of the page,<br />Amazon.com,NAPA,Ebay etc.

Be carefull. i dont know about your evinrude but ive had some that are screwed in, makes a mess when you use a puller.

The E/J were not screwed in like the Mercs but can seem like it. There are some really good pullers out there. Like the ones using a "bottle" jack. Like the guys suggested - get a manual. <br /><br />What EXACTLY are you trying to do? Do you have the shim tools to reassemble the unit if you do get it apart?<br /><br />The 4th is fast coming. I'm going to Daytona! I'll go boating the week after!<br /><br />Good luck!

Does anybody have a picture of one of these "bearing carrier pullers"? I'm just curious.
