Thanks for telling me what my old motor was. Now, I purchased a 3 hp Johnson that looks just like mine the # on the side is E2748399. I hope the rod and piston will interchange with my 66 evinrude. I was wondering what year the Johnson was. Also, what is the TCW oil you were talking about? Will any 2 cycle oil at a 24:1 work? Thanks Again ED.

Re: Evinrude Boat Motor

Johnson's will have a model number. Try looking for a JW(something)-number on the side. If the engine is close in years, the rods are probably the same. They'll have part numbers cast into them.
TCW is for watercooled engines. Plain old 2 stroke oil is usually for air cooled (hot) engines. TCW-3 is a standard for better 2-stroke oil, and is available anywhere (WalMart has it).
Order yourself up a manual before you start puting things back together. On second though, get one before you start pulling things apart! You'll thank yourself.
