I just got an evinrude "A" motor with the numbers A 91856 on the brass plate on the top of the tank.
underneath the tank above the carb it is marked 39A and on the solid brass or bronze foot it is marked 45B.
I am thinking this is what was called a nuckle buster? Has a knob on the flywheel.
Thios motor is in very nice condition but I think there are a couple missing parts so I need to see a pic of one or info on where to find a manual.
Any and all help would be appreciated.

I put an ad in a local for sale magazine wanted section a few weeks ago and can't keep up to the amount of motors that are being offerd to me.
I can't stop but I think this motor and the other one I got with it (waterwitch MAE West) should satisfy my craving for a while.

Re: Evinrude "A" 1916

It appears you have one of the earliest available Evinrudes. They made the A from 1915 to 1928. That serial number puts it somewhere after 1915 according to my book (50,000 and above). What I can't determine is if it's 2, 3, or 3 1/2 Hp. You can probably get some good information here.
http://www.aomci.org/
