1988 Evinrude V4 90 HP Outboard.
I searched quite a bit, but can' quite find what I need to know.
I let someone use my boat for tubing etc. The tow cables caught on the front part of the motor while at speed. Now the motor shifts to neutral and reverse, but there is almost no increase in throttle speed when pushing the throttle lever full forward. I have the Evinrude/Johnson manual, but it's not clear what I should begin to check. I did take the control box apart and everything looks to be in the correct place.
The cable appears to be connected to the engine correctly and the trunnion adjustment doesn't seem to change anything.
I'm concluding the cable is stretched or damaged in some way. How do I confirm it is damaged or stretched. It's a long way to a repair shop, so I'd like to fix it if I can.
This thread looked promising and may help http://www.iboats.com/bbboard/html/bbBoard.cgi?a=viewthread;fid=28;gtid=1122753 [http://www.iboats.com/bbboard/html/bbBoard.cgi?a=viewthread;fid=28;gtid=1122753]
