1975 Evinrude 9.9?..I am going to replace impeller ( first time ever doing this), and I figured that instead of ordering the impeller I would check around the lower unit to see if I needed any other parts. I noticed that the shift rod connector was cracked off on the top, where the top screw is screwed in?see attached photos. The way it is, it will still clamp down on the rod and hold it. Does anyone have the same situation, or should I just replace it to be safe? If I do replace the connector, do I just unscrew the bottom srew and slip the connector off and slide new one on? I do not want to throw the shifting rod out of alignment. The motor is in neutral now.

Try right here on I-boats to find one.

Hard to throw the shift out of adjustment there.------Rod is screwed all the way into the lower unit and then turned out to line it up.---Both screws must be intalled when notches in rod line up with holes in the connecter.

@ raczekp1..Even though the screw goes thru 1/2 of the notch in the rod (which would really hold the connector to the rod) I have decided to replace it.
@ boobie.. The part is available "all over" except I-Boats which I try to support as I believe this forum is the best. I see that problem so much on this site.
@racerone..Thank you for that, sounds like a plan that I will do.
