I have an opportunity to buy I think an '89 (gonna check the serial later) Evinrude 9.9 kicker off a whaler to use on my 11' Avon inflatable. The guy said it ran well (gonna try it anyway before I buy; he'll let me try it out) but the only thing is last time he used it he pulled and the pull start rope didn't go back in. Any guesses as to how big of a problem this could possibly be? It it's going to be too expensive or too much work I won't buy it, but he said he'll give to it me for $350, since I know him. Worst case price or scenario for repairing this? Not too versed on working on outboard motors, so I'd probably feel most comfortable taking it to a shop, and probably do maintenance anyway. So any ideas before I get back to him? Thanks in advance fellas.
