evinrude 9.5 question

i jsut got a 9.5 with a locked up power head so the guy said. i cant get the shifter to switch gears i think that the problem is in the lower unit.how do i take the lower unit off. or would i be better off pulling the power head ? i got this engine for spair parts but i wanna know what is good and what is not

Have you tried moving the prop a little to see if it will drop in?<br /> If you are going to be working on a motor you really need a ser. manual.If you dont want to spend the money try the library.<br /> Lower unit comes off at the impeller bulge<br /> Dont forget to unhook the shift shaft at the lower connector screw thats exposed as it slides apart.

ok never mind i got the power head unstuck with pb blaster and the engine runs i just cant get it into gear. i think i will get a service manual and go from there is there any manuals that are better then others >?

original equipment manufacturers are the best but sometimes herd to understand if you're not experienced. an omc manual can be had at:<br /> http://www.kencook.com/ <br /><br />and aftermarket manual can be purchased at the link at the lower left of theis page. i prefer the Seloc over the Clymers but either will suffice.<br /><br />Good Luck<br />HAVE FUN!
