evinrude 8 hp 1984 -- dies under load

Hi.
My Evinrude goes very slowly and finely dies when I try to drive at high speed. Before this happens the motor doesn't react to the speed. (under full speed on tiller the motor goes slowley). Don't know why this happens. Do you have any idea what the problem is?

Have you checked the spark and compression to see if the engine is running on both cylinders? Does it help to pump the primer bulb, maybe a fuel pump problem? When was the last time the carb was overhauled, could have restricted passages.

I think the carb was never overhauled. Can I do this on my own? I'll try the bulb when I'm on the water. Any advice on how I can check the carb?
