Serial number is 7512-19638. A friend of mine bought the "room" at an estate sale and this was in it. I am interested in buying it from him and want to make sure I give him fair market. First, can anyone identify the year? Second, what is fair market. Not sure if it runs, havent gotten that far - to cold outside. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Evinrude 7.5

That's a 1953 7.5hp Evinrude. I have no idea of its worth. Unless it looks like it just came out of the box (unlikely) and has been serviced faithfully, in all probability it will need a water pump assy, a carburetor rebuild job, and possible ignition coil replacements along with the standard ignition work.

That engine, if memory serves me correctly requires a two line pressure fuel tank. If the tank isn't included with the engine, I'd suggest you pass on it.

Re: Evinrude 7.5

Thank you for the quick reply. It has a pretty good layer of dust, but looks to be in great condition. The decals are intact, no scratches, paint in good shape. Im not sure I want to run it, but keep it in the den as a conversation piece - more good memories from fishing with "Grandad". I appreciate your advice on the fuel tank. Is $50.00 to $100.00 "in line"? Im just looking for a basic ball park.

$50 or so is surely fair for an incomeplete engine of unknown condition.

Re: Evinrude 7.5

Hi SlugBug,
I've had a number of 7.5s over the years and have never paid more than $75 for any one of them. With a modest amount of time and money I managed to return all of them to running order.
FYI, your motor should have a built-on tank as it was the last year of the neutral-clutch Fleetwin model. That said, you won't need the separate tank. The neutral-clutch system works fine, but can be susceptible to previous fumble-fingered attempts at service. New waterpump impellers s are readily available (with a minor modification required to the impeller), as are ignition components. If the motor has solid compression (at least 80 psi in each hole) and doesn't make any odd noises when pulled over, then it's certainly worth somewhere in the ballpark you were looking to spend....

- Scott
