Evinrude 7.5 / 5.5 Interchange?

Does anyone know if a '54-'58 Evinrude 7.5 powerhead will bolt into a 1960 Evinrude 5.5 ? The 5.5 design ran from '54 to '64, and I suspect that the 7.5 is a bored out version of the same powerhead, but I'm not sure. I'd like to really know so that I could maybe start to look for a good one.<br /><br />Your help is much appreciated.

Hi Gerry,<br /> It's close, but I don't think it'll work. I am pretty sure they changed some of the cooling passages in the base of the powerhead to accomodate the addition of the thermostat in 1959.<br /> The 7.5 powerhead itself is it's own block - not a bored out version of the 5.5. The only things the powerheads shared are ignition and recoil.<br /><br />- Scott
