just got a plastic 90 degree elbow here but not sure if its too big
threaded part is 12mm and the barbed outlet will take a 8mm internal diameter pipe....will this do or is it better to go smaller

Too big.. The hose on mine (84 model) is only 4mm bore,

The jet in the outlet fitting in the corner of the lower cowl is about 2mm
