1992 model 6 HP
The chart I have lists Champion QL77JC4 or QL86C at .030"

OK so should NGKs be gaped the same as the champ?

I would assume so, but I wouldn't put NGK's in my Evinrude, either. The motor was designed around the Champions, and all spark plugs aren't the same. If the NGK is at a too high heat range, then bye-bye pistons.

Agree with tx1961whaler. The motor was built, designed and tested with QL77JC4 Champions. Set them at .030. Those plugs are available just about anywhere.

Champion are the approved plug but if it is any consolation for my '84 6hp I have the original QL77J4s and a set of NGK B7HS-10s. The NGK plugs are in service at the moment, gapped at 0.030". The original spec was for a gap of 0.040"

The equivalent of QL77JC4 is BZ7HS-10 these incorporating a low resistance, inductive, suppressor which is appropriate for CD ignition systems

NGK plugs seem to be more widely available than Champions in the UK, that being the reason I have them.

Changing between Champions and NGK or from 0.040" to 0.030" as made no discernible difference.

Answer to your question is 0.030" but increase it a little in the unlikely event of plug fouling
