I have a 65 hp evinrude triumph outboard motor. 2 stroke and year is 1973 I believe. Anyways, motor starts and runs amazing in the driveway with muffs but on the water it must be choked rigorously to start. Once started I can drive all over the lake, idle down, even go I to neutral or turn the motor off for a few minutes and it’ll fire right back up. Give it more than 20 minutes in the water however and it takes a lot of effort to start again. What is the reason for this? It fires right up easily with muffs but why not in the lake? All 3 cylinders 125 PSI, ran seafoam through carbs, new fuel filter, so frustrating!! Any advice would be appreciated. Also please forgive me if I didn’t put this question on the right forum, it’s my first time and I didn’t know where else to turn for help

Make sure it's not overheating (top of head shouldn't be too hot to touch), measure spark on all three. Disassemble, soak, and clean carbs.

They all---" bark and roar " in the driveway.----They sound really powerful to the untrained ear.-----I would start with a load test on the battery ( even if new )----Then inspect battery cables.-----Then take starter apart for inspection / ohm check on commutator to shaft.----Then check adjust and operation of the choke solenoid.----No money spent doing these checks.
