evinrude 50 hp

I have a 1973 50 hp eninrude. It idles fine but when I put it into drive or reverse it wants to bog out and die.

Have you checked the compression on it? Done a de-carb? Did this prob just start or has it been ongoing?

No not yet. I took the carbs off to check if they were gummed up.

Be sure you get all the carb passages and jets clean.
