I have an engine with complex problems. The biggest one is that is does not idle satisfactorily when cold nor warm. To fix that we have dismantled carburettors and cleaned them with compressed air so they should be in proper order. We also installed an extra fuel cleaner which separates the water from fuel. Furthermore, pick-up timing of ignition has been checked as well as the synchronization of throttles (just in case)and new spark plugs were installed. Result: no improvement. The only way to have some kind of idle is to open idle screw so much that throttles are then semi-open.

Other weird symptom is the random sound of the alarm horn. Quite often it starts to alarm couple of minutes after starting. Both constant horn and beeping sound appear. Squeezing manual oil "pump" does not help and cooling water runs through the engine. Pushing full rpm kills the alarm quite quickly. I suspect the it is cooling alarm, but sometimes I get no alarm for days...

Can a mailfuntioning VRO pump cause all this and also the idle problems - or are these two separate ones ? I have been also told that a leaking camshaft gasket could cause the idle problems, but that sounds like the last dubious object. Any experience on this ?

Remove starter and check pulse hose to VRO, sometimes the starter rubs hole in hose, Need more then compressed air to clean carb. The last 50 carb I had to use small wire to push goop out of idle tube.
