Can someone please tell me what spark plugs I need for a 1971 evinrude 50 (50173s) . I've searched the net and I think I need a couple of B9HS-10's (NGK). Can someone in the know please check this for me. My local marine store is useless.

Cheers.

Re: Evinrude 50 1971 spark plugs

The original plug was a Champion UL77V. Often replaced by L77J4 gapped at .040" when the UL77V just wouldn't run right. The L77J4 is now called L77JC4 (or in an inductive suppressor plug QL77JC4 for radio noise suppression). Those are what I'd put in if it were mine. Now, if you insist on NKG, I suppose they have an interchange guide.

nope, I don't insist on NGK but thats what the nearest shop to me stocks.
I'd prefer to use the make that the manufacturer recommends really, so I'll try to track down someone that stocks Champion plugs.

Thanks

Don't know where you're at, but Walmart almost always has them...
