Hello, I have a 4 hp yachtwin ser # 4236 s e0002880. I would like to know the year and fuel mixture. Also, how can I tell if the water pump is doing its job before the motor burns up? Thanks....Vic

Howdy, Kuhl.

Welcome to iboats. :)

That is a 1972 you have there.

Fuel mix is 50:1, 87 octane regular and TC-W3 rated outboard oil (1 pt. oil to 6gal. gas).

Good luck. :)

Check for a mist spurtzing from the idle exhaust relief ports. I belive they are on the front of the leg above the waterline on that engine. There is no tell-tale on this engine like modern ones.
You could also remove the flush port, which is covered by a large slotted screw near the base of the tiller handle. Only operate for a second with that open though, since you're depriving the engine of water without it in place. Water should spray out of it when you crank the engine.
You might also want to consider adding an extra dollup of oil to the mix for that engine, despite the original 50:1 ratio. Check out the Oil Mix post in the Engine FAQ forum for more information.

Good luck!
