evinrude 35hp. 74 vs 85

gday from new zealand. i currently have a 1974 35hp rude but have been offered an 1985 model cheap. can anyone tell me of any major differences between the two engines? can i use the older one for parts? cheers

The newer motor is about 10 years 'better' in fuel consumption and tech inventions.<br /><br />Also, relatively, should have far less running hours behind it and have suffered far less from use in general.<br /><br />If you get it, keep the 'ol one in the shed for some time..
