Everything I’ve seen about the shift rod bushing removal leans to tapping it with a 5/16 bolt to remove it. Can you re-use it after it’s been tapped or do I need to get another one? Seems like I’d need a new one, but I haven’t heard either way.

If you tap it for say 3 threads you can re-use it.---This bushing is a means to provide a groove for the o-ring !------Even with more threads you can re-use it.----Have never seen a " worn out " bushing on these.

Is that the best way to remove one? I also saw something about a 5/16 metal bar and hammering it out.

Yes you can use a Factory tool to punch it out.-----Or replace the o-ring without removing the bushing.----Some will argue that . but it can be done !!

I've replaced just the o-ring with out removing the bushing by using dental picks. Once you get the right picks together it's easy.
