Hi all I wonder if anyone can help. I have a 25hp 1984 evinrude and I would like to fit an amp meter but am not sure where the wires go. The model No is E25ELCRS, and the serial No is BOO7319. It is electric start CD2. I have a manual but it does not explain about an amp meter. The amp meter is an old F.Claudet. Thank you all.

Forget the amp meter and install a voltmeter. The alternator output on that engine is so low the needle would hardly move unless it is -10/0/+10 gauge. Amp meters need to be installed in the charging line between the rectifier and where it attaches to the positive terminal off the battery. That connection point is generally the same terminal where the positive battery cable connects on the starter solenoid. When the engine is charging, current flows through the meter to the battery. When electrical demand is more than the alternator output, current flows from the battery through the gauge to the loads. A voltmeter on the other hand can be connected anywhere there is a switched +12V and ground connection. If the alternator is charging, the voltage will be anything above 12.6 volts. If it's not, the charging system is not working or is not keeping up with demand.
