I test drove a 13' whaler with a 25 HP Evinrude and it ran fast OK till we slowed down the first time (2 minutes or so). After that it stalled and would only idle. After pulling it out of the water and futzing around it did the same thing again. Gas was fresh in a borrowed tank. Any ideas?

Also, model number is E25TEETE, s/n E022/244. Any idea of the vintage? I was told mid-80's.

Howdy, Rick.
My first thought is tank venting, second is fuel delivery to the fuel pump, third is heat. All of the putzing ashore could simply have let her cool down, or the tank to suck up some air.

You didn't mention telltale stream or its condition, nor whether you pumped the primer bulb.

The BW 13 and the OMC 25, by the way, is a marriage made in heaven. Had one of those for years and wept when I traded it for a Montauk 17, which, in time, I loved every bit as much.

Red sky. . . .
JB

Re: Evinrude 25 no go fast

JB - Thanks for the reply

We did not pump the bulb after it conked out, only to start it originally. Did check the vent and it seemed loose.

I didn't mention that I noticed water in the upper powerhead when we pulled it out of the water after the first test. Popped the cover and started it up. A small rubber hose was split and a stream was leaking. Cut the bad end off and restarted and saw a steady flow of water (telltale stream?). After the second test, the stream was still flowing OK.

I'll check the fuel line, as there was an extra one. Also thought the linkage might be off, but not sure what to look for.

Regards, gasmanrick
