I am going to rebuild an old engine i have lying this winther. I have a lot of parts from an old Evin 35 hp 1976 with damaged powerhead and a perfect 25 hp 1984 except from a broken gear. I would like to mix the two of them to a 35. I heard the powerhead is the same, except from airintake, reeds and carbureator. Is this correct? Is the cylinderhead the same. Is it possible to identify old evinrude parts by P/N on a website or elsewhere ?

Sorry for my english, i am a Dane !!

Boy, you came to the right place! If there is anything an American can do, it's an engine swap. What year mustang did yousay you have? Sorry, bad joke. This has worked in the past, but is not scientific.

Remove both power heads and examine the bolt patterns and physical chacteristics. Measure the output shafts with a micrometer and count the splines. Measure the total hight, length and width of the motors. Where is the water stand pipe pickup? If they are the same, you will know quickly. I worked on those when they were new, and it seems that they were the same head, different carburator, reed plate and reed valves. Might have been timed differently as well.

Good luck, oh frozen one

Case

The last two things I worked on were a Mariner 15 and an 89' BMW 325iX

I inspected both powerheads - there is no problem in swapping, when it comes to bolts, water tube, cranck etc.

The question is: will i get the same performance. Are there any experienced Evinrude/Johnson people out there who knows.

Is it possible to identify the right cylinderhead by part nr., i. exa. on a web site somewhere ?

I'm not sure but it may have different exhaust tuners also.
