Just installed the rebuilt powerhead. sent it the shop to get the spark advanced timed etc... went to take it for a test run, it idles fine and runs on midrange fine . but when i try to get on step it has no power. i finally get it to plane and all i get is 4400rpm's. the engine doesn't stutter at all. could it be that i'm not running on all cyl. or i have trash in the carbs? any opinions would be appreciated.

Everything you mention is possible and them some.
Is the bulb soft? Have you bumped the primer (choke)? Are you sure it's timed right? Have you given the carbs a shot of premix from a sqeeze bottle? Someone mentioned feeling the sparkplugs right after running to see if any are cold (not Firing).
...and the list goes on.
Try some of these and lettus know what happens.

g'luck & c/6

Hooty

Well if you are running low on fuel you would lean engine out and start missing/sputter.I would say the timming is way retarded or not advancing with the throttle, maybe a linkage not conected. Also make sure the throttle is opening the throttle blades fully. waynebo

Re: evinrude 200XP

I would be careful about running engine hard before breakin. Was the timing checked at full throttle and at about 5000 rpms? I missed the year, but if it has Quick Start, the timing was set at cranking rpms on a cold engine and Quick Start was not bypassed the timing will be about 6 degrees slow, with a loss of 500/700 rpms.
