Re: evinrude 2 sroke oil

The fuel will not look noticably different when mixed in a larger volume. You may notice it if you put it in a clear glass. Different oils have different colors, so don't worry about that, As long as you mixed it, it's fine. Did you put the oil in the tank first and then the gas? This mixes it up a bit better, but it will still mix, nevertheless. Evinrude brand oil is fine, as well as any 2-Stroke oil rated TCW-3. As for the water in the tank, I would install a Water/Fuel separating filter before you run it again. You can find these at Marine Stores or online here at I-Boats in the Mega-mall at the top of this page. Would need your engine HP and year to tell you what plug to run...

Fuel Filter

EDIT: If it's the 60-70 HP rude you are talking about, the QL77JC4 Champion plugs would be the correct ones gapped at .030.

"Evinrude brand oil is fine, as well as any 2-Stroke oil rated TCW-3."

So do you want "as well as any"?? This statement is not entirely true! TCW-3 is a minimum standard and there are many outbourd oils out there now that exceed this requirement! WallyWorld oil is not as good as the oil you are using, and the oil you are using isnt as good as the synthetics out there, Use a full synthetic and you will experience less smoking, less spark plug fowling and replacement, and all around cleaner and better performance. the guys out there and on this forum that use it will swear by it , and the ones that havnt will swear at it, Try it youll like it!

I’m a newby too so take any of my suggestions with a grain of salt. :D
I read a lot of old posts in an attempt to keep myself out of trouble.

What size tank are you mixing your oil and gas in?
If it’s a portable tank I think you should discard your fuel if you think there is any water in it. If it is a built in tank add a water filter as previously suggested. I’ve read where if you dump the oil in a built in tank it “MAY” not mix properly and someone lost an engine due to lack of oil. :( I think the recommendation was to use a funnel and to add small amount of oil as you fill with gas so that it mixes in the funnel.
There are a number of very knowledgeable people on the site who can give you their suggestions.

Just my 2¢’s ;)

Mike

Re: evinrude 2 sroke oil

janthony1001, J/E oils are going through a change right now, and the standard Johnson/Evinrude oil won't be available much longer from what I'm told....They do, however, manufacture the "XD" series oils, all of which are either partial, or complete synthetic base stock, being labeled as XD-30, -50, and -100.
I do believe that under normal conditions, a TC-W3 oil is plenty sufficient for everyday use, I also feel there is a place for the synthetics, and one in particular is trolling....plugs don't seem to foul, measurably less smoke, and one thing I've found that is important to me, is less residual mess, which means less to clean up..less to collect dust and dirt.
Also, as rick said, you may not notice any color change, regardless of oil used, and it "should mix" well enough even with a little motion of the boat from side to side...
Give us that yr and HP, so we can tell ya what plugs to use...

Kenny, not that I want to get into another one of these oil conversations that go nowhere, but does that mean that XD-25 will no longer be available and they now call it XD-30 and make it partially synthetic? And is XD-50 the Ficht oil and XD-100 the full synthetic for E-TEC? Thanks.

Re: evinrude 2 sroke oil

Well, I'm told the Ficht Ram became, or was replaced by the XD-100, and the XD-30 is the replacement for the XD-25. I believe the XD-50 is a higher syn. base stock, and all-around Good choice for best protection in injector type systems with exception of the E-TEC, which I understand the XD-100 is the oil to be used in that application..
The info I got says all 3 can be pre-mixed as well.
BTW, the XD-25 is 10% synthetic.
