I have a 1995 Evinrude 60hp 3 cylinder

Model no BE60TLEOC
Serial no G 03751787
made in USA

The 2 smaller Power trim rams are leaking oil and i need to get new seals/ o rings etc.
ive been intouch with BRP and they seam a bit expensive considering it just the seas/o ringsl that i need.

Near to where i live is a hydraulic repair specialst, that does repairs and sells parts, even make new rams etc.

what i will need to know is information on seal sizes and types of the seals or numbers of the
seals etc for the two smaller rams.
its only the 2 small rams that are weeping, the main centre ram was re-done a year ago.

i dont realy want to have to take the whole unit off the engine if i can help it,or take out the rams just yet.
I will be using the boat a few times and dont realy want to be having any delays of getting seals etc.

so if anyone knows the sizes and types etc i would be gratefull

Call BRP again and maybe they can give you the specs. Or take it to your hydraulic repair specialest

BRP dont want you to know the specs of anything. they have not given me any details at all about seals.

I think its because i could get them for about 10% of the price they want to charge.

ive also found another place about 20 miles from me that will make new trim rods as well for just ?15 each.
Brp are about ?80 each.
No wonder BRP dont want anyone to know the specs.

looks like ill just have to strip it down then get the bits and hope its in one day.

firsti need to make a tool for the four little holes that keep the trim rams in.

I saw a real cool trim cap tool. Someone on here took a normal adjustable wrench, and drilled a hole in each "jaw", two holes for the pins. Then the wrench became an adjustable trim cap tool. He used the chuck end of drill bits as the pins. Wish I had that picture.....but you get the idea I hope.

Most of those seals are standard o-rings, but the ones that leak are the ones you can see, center of cap, surrounding the trim rod. They are special, I don't think a hydraulic repair place will have them.

I like the sound of your trim cap tool
It realy makes good sense

ill be drilling out a adjustable wrench first thing tommorow for sure

thanks for that, brilliant idea.

I think i know what you mean about the seals being a bit special for size and type.
the marine world dont like anyone using simple standard things that are nice and cheap, they realy do try to sting us
for all our hard earned money.

thanks again for the tool tip.

thats what i like about this forum, always someone around with good idea's to make like easier

Re: Evinrude 1995 powertrim seal numbers and types

Well, after searching almost everywhere in the uk, including sever hydraulic seal company's, i have had to go to BRP agent to
get the seals.
All companies on the phone say bring them down and we will match for you, yeah right.
As soon as the micrometers came out to measure the seals the answers were all pretty much the same
"ive never come across this size seal before, they must be special one off's !!!!!!!!!

I had to get a complete seal kit for the power trim unit that also includes a new trim filter !!!!!
The price was ?71.00. about 110 us $...
considering what some stupid people wanted to make the so called one off's, this was a good deal.
But the only other place i could get them was from a company called skf, and the price they wanted was absolutely crazy, about 6 times the price of BRP ??????????

Anyway now ive got the seals and also got 2 brand new trim rams, the unit will be as good as new.
Ive also cleaned the outside up and given it a nice spray job as well to try and keep the outside from getting any corrosion .
I was suprised at just how easy these units are to take off the engine, just 2 simple clips and press the 2 rods out from the
main bracket, im suprised a lot of these dont get stolen.
I had mine off the boat in well under 5 minutes with engine still attached !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ive taken the trim motor apart and given it a good clean as well.

Now just need to find out what oil to put in the unit,as BRP agent hasnt got any at the moment ...
Ive been told i can use dexron 11 ? but not 100% sure.

Il be glad to get this back on the engine now.

so this little leak has turned out to be expensive, just hope i dont have to ever do it again.

All due to previous owners not giving the outside a good clean and polish after every use.
