Hello,

I have a Evinrude 1968 18hp motor. When I try to pull out choke handle, it just does not stay still so I have to hold it during a cold start. As a result, I could not start my motor. I guess that there might be some problem on the linkage mechanism to keep the choke value from fully opening.

I am wondering if anyone can post a picture to show me how the linkage mechanisme is set up on a similiar motor.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Go to boats.net and pull up the drawing. From this you can see the parts involved. I think those old motors had plastic parts that wear.

I have checked the website you mentioned and it has only parts catalog. I want to know how those parts are mechanically connected. Can anyone post a picture of the actual linkage setup on a similar motor?

Thanks a lot,
Andrew

If you look at the drawings carefully you can see which part goes where. Not easy I grant you.
The investment in a manual is recommended. Even a Seloc has photo's in it which may be helpful.

on my 62 18hp I replaced the choke lever because it was doing the same thing, and it still did not want to stay out, what I did was put a small washer(in addition to the two that were in there which were a normal washer and a VERY thin "bent washer)in between the bolt holding the assembly on and the bracket it bolts to, and problem solved. Hope this helps.

Thanks lot for the tip! Can you please tell me where exactly you add the extra washer? Is it between part 61 and 62 in the diagram(http://www.marineengine.com/parts/j...ufacturer=Evinrude&section=Carburetor+Group)?
