I have a '61 10hp Evinrude that will run well for about 3 to 5 minutes and then abruptly stops. It appears to be temporarily seized up as I can't pull the starter rope or even turn the fly wheel by hand. I let it sit for about 15 or 20 minutes and it will start again. I don't know a whole lot about outboards so I appreciate any help or advice. Thanks.

I think you are overheating, Barry.

Get a Service Manual and replace the water pump impeller.

Don't run the engine again until after you do that. Severe damage will result, if it hasn't already.

Good luck. :)

Thanks for the advice. I will give it a try. Is this sort of repair covered in the Seloc manuals?

Yes, that sort is. And the Seloc manual for that year range of outboards is a pretty good manual.

The OEM repair manual is technically superior. It is aimed at people who are familiar with outboards. It also has the advantage of being written for your particulair outboard only. The Seloc one is written for people who are new to outboard maintanance. OEM ones are available from:
TheOutboardWizard
Mastertech
Marine Engine
Ken Cook
Check ebay too: search for "johnson manual" or "evinrude manual". Used OEM manuals are often sold there for a fraction of the price of a reprint.

Good luck!
