I need the complete starter assembly for this motor. I cant seem to find the whole lot. I got a motor that has no starer components.

If anyone knows of a place to get the starter assembly please let me know.

I was also thinking I might be able to modify (machine) a pull starter assembly from some sort of lawnmower motor. Possible? Not Possible?

Any thoughts?

Howdy,
Your motor was only made for one year, and used a 6volt starter and solenoid, I believe. The only hope for getting such a setup would be to place a free ad on aomci.org's free adv. site. However, I think you'd be able to get a whole electric start '56 15 for not much more than the price of that starter bracket. Heck, I'd love to have one for my '56 fastwin as well! At least they are really easy motors to start the old fashioned way. I love mine.
I was actually able to get electric start for my '57 johnson 18 and '58 fastwin from 2 members at aomci (I'm a member, too)-------but I feel very, VERY fortunate to have done so.
Good luck and merry Christmas,

I think he is talking about the recoil starter.

Place a free want ad on the Webvertize pages at www.aomci.org Somebody will have one.

Getting a rope pulley attached to the top of the flywheel isn't that tough. Finding a rope pulley to fit.... that's the tough part.

If you were really good with a drill press and a measuring device it's possible to make one off a lawn mower to work. Balance is the key!

A rope pulley would be an exercise if futility. It already has a rope pulley molded into the flywheel. I believe he was thinking of grafting a lawn mower recoil starter onto it. I hate to say it, but that doesn't seem like the smartest thing to do. Nearly impossible, and even if he does get it to work, will the hood still go on??

Those motors, and the 18hp that followed them are common. There are used parts out there, all you have to do is seek them.
