My son in law had this motor Model E140CXERE on his 20 ft dusky until in stopped running one day about 4 years ago. Local mechanic checked it out afterwards and said he thought it had a bad bearing which was causing the motor to seize up. Motor had lower compression on 1 of the 4 cylinders but power pack was inop on one cylinder as well.

I have had the motor stored in my garage for the past 4 years with the thought I would tear it down and see what failed. Maybe part it out or fix it if the parts required are not too expensive. I could easily get into $1000 for bearings, pistons, gaskets and power pack.

What is weird is this is a counter-rotating engine and I have a nice Stainless steel 15 spline 14-1/2 by 19 pitch prop for it.

Do you think I would just be better off to part it out and try to fix it and sell it off after rebuild.

I'd bet it has a hurt piston rather than a bad bearing. Maybe not but it costs almost nothing to tear it down and see. Excellent motor for a carb'd 2 stroke. I'd look into it if it were mine.....

Thank you both for the inputs. Makes sense if it was a scored piston as the motor would run after he cooled it down and then would get tight and stop running again. I will put the teardown into my list of things to do.
