Just fired it up and had some problem getting any water out of the bleeder hole. Water pressure went up about 20 lbs when on top speed of the idle. I Cleaned the **** hole and it started dripping. Temperature on the head at the sensor was 106 on one side and 124-138 on the other. Seems I have a bit of a clog.

First question. What's the best way to clean a plugged up water jacket. Thermostats are only about 8 months old. Used my laser temp reader from my HVAC business to get the readings off the heads.

2nd problem... I noticed the bottom bolt on the left side (looking from the rear)had just a small leak. This is the flat plate on the back of the engine between the heads. Haven't tightened them up yet. Wanted to hear what the experts have to say. Seemed to run without a miss but never was able to get it to a real low idle in the 15 minutes or so I ran it.

Any advice?

Thanks... Well....lets see....we probably need to start with a model number so we know what you have.

A 120 is a V4 looper but there were none in 78. And a looper doesnt have any plates that bolt on over the exhaust. We're guessing you have a crossflow.

Hmmm... It's a 115 HP Evinrude... How embarrassing. Don't know where I got 120 at but I guess the winter took out some brain cells.. Manufacturing number is 003844.

Really sorry about the misinformation... Guvner..

The 124-138 on the one head seems normal for a 115 at idle. Really should be up around 140 to 143*. The port head on these cross flows will run lower than the starboard side.....but 106 seems a little to low. I would suggest you put it in the water and run it good. If the port head dosen't warm up, replace the t-stat.....8 months old dosen't mean it can't screw up.

Tighten up a little on the leaky bolt. The flat backs leak...it's common. Only real way to fix the leaks if they get to bad is to replace the gaskets. Torquing all the cover bolts to the same specs does help.

One other question... How much water pressure should I be reading on the gauge at the dash in full choke idle? Normal idle?

Thanks... Guvner..

Water pressure depends on the condition of the water pump impeller an how strong it pumps. Best thing is to get some reference readings at different rpm's and use these as a guide for future reference.
