I have a 1987 Evinrude E110tlcur. I just finished rebuilding the cooling systm. New: water pump, upper water tube grommet, water diverters, thermostats, and all the affiliated gaskets. I checked and cleaned all the water ports and chambers. I rebuilt it because I was getting very little stream through the tell-tale and the high temp alarm went off. I have had this motor about a week.
After 10 mins at idle, on muffs, she reads with an infared thermometer, Port bank 105 degrees, Starboard bank 142 degrees. I have read on here that the starboard bank always runs hotter on these V4 outboards. 40 degrees seems to be quite a high differance to me.
Compression readings are:
#1 cylinder = 122psi
#2 cylinder = 117psi
#3 cylinder = 115psi
#4 cylinder = 118psi
It idles well with no coughs or sneezes.
I have yet to take it out to the water to see how it cools at any speeds over an Idle.
I know that timing and lean carburation can cause high temps.
I'm wondering which carbs run which cylinders. Does the upper carb run the top two cylinders and the lower carb run the bottom two?? Or do they power port and starboard banks?? If they run port and starbord banks, could the starboard carb be lean??
I will check the timing at first chance.
I have a seloc manual that might very well find it's way to the garbage very soon.
