Evin 60Hp, identifying from serial nr.

I was offered an old 60HP Evinrude today.<br /><br />Its model number is hard to read on plate, either 60738 or 60758. The serial number is B3626.<br /><br />It could be 1970 from model number, can anybody tell for sure. Is it a looper ? It is 3 cyl. How big is the difference to the eighties models ?

GDane, If the first three numbers of model no. are 607 ,I believe it is a 1967 model 60hp.The 1982 model 60 hp I owned was a 2 cyl. loop charged motor.Don't know if the older 3 cylinder was loop charged or not.

Thanks OB, but as far as I understood from the flw it has thru-hub exhaust, which should bee later than 67. It is gold-like colour on leg.

Hi G Dane!<br /><br />How about 60753? A 3 not an 8 in the end.<br />In that case it is a 1967.<br />Looking like in this picture ?<br />

G DANE, <br /><br />There is no # that matches the one you gave, but I believe the '67 Model was a V4 Cylinder. So that would rule out that year, if yours is a 3 Cyl. Not that this helps you with your year!

GDane ,If it is a 600738 and not 60738 ,then it is a 1970 model.First model number you listed was 60738 or 60735.

Thanks - the correct number is 600738 it must be 1970 then - pretty old. It looks like the gold like colour on the picture too.<br /><br />Thanks for the help. This motor has been run in saltwater as well as freshwater. Do they resist corosion that long ?

GDane, Lots of fishermen here on the gulf coast run motors of that vintage strictly in salt water.John/Rude has had a good reputation of corrosion durability if flushed and maintained properly.The fact that that motor was run in fresh as well as salt water maybe allowed it to get an occasional good fresh water flushing as well.

I find the first 3 cylinder 60HP thru hub exhaust in 1970, model numbers are 60062, 60063, 60072, 60073. May have had a B or D after model number, parts books says Triumph 60. The engine had battery powered CDI with dist cap under the flywheel.
