Been 3 weeks and a few days with not one smoke, and I feel great!! Used Chantix to quit and cant say enough good thing about how easy this appears to be. I make sure I eat before taking the med, but am already starting to wind down on it, and feel very confident I can stop smoking for good this time. Anyone else wanting to quit, if your body can take the medicine Chantix, I recommend trying it, smoke free is a good thing. Just figured I'd share a good thing that happened to me.

Keep at it and congrats!! I've never been a smoker, but I've been told it's a real bear to kick the habit. Very "worth it" though.

Good for you Greenbush. Use caution though. A co-worker tried Chantix to help him quit resulting in significant side effects. Said it made him feel awful with depression episodes and suicidal tendencies. It's not for everyone. Good luck on your journey to better health.

I smoked for over 40 years and late this summer will be 2 years of no smoke. I had been cutting down, then decided it was time. No drugs, Wife still smokes, but I can honestly say I don't miss it.

Congrats and good luck in the future with it. It didn't work for me. Neither have any of the other prescription meds. After my 1st heart episode many years ago I was able to quit. No urge, no get away from me or anything. Problem was it only lasted about 4 months until I went back to work.

I tell all young people the truth. "It's easier to never start than it is to quit!"

This is my story as well! Now it's not only a health issue, but a financial issues as well especially when you're retired. The reason being, this country thinks that it's okay to keep raising the price, thinking let's put this financial burden on the back of that scapegoat evil smoker, with his dirty habit, nowadays. The price of cigarettes today is outrageous for no real reason, but it's all about the Benjamins!

Several weeks ago I switched to e cigs, vaping as they call it. Was so easy to quit compared to the 2 times I had years before. I was able to vape for a few weeks, backing down the nicotine strength of the juice little by little, while still simulating the act of smoking (that's the part I especially enjoyed) Been smoke free, even vape free for several weeks now. Zero desire to go back. Im now a vaping proponent.

congrats on all the guys that quit smoking. My father quit many years ago, on advice of his doc (it was either quit or die of pneumonia at the time). some friends of mine used chantix, and had the most vivid weird dreams. others simply quit.

I cant say I really am having any of the side effects others have mentioned, and I have a ton on my "plate" of life so to speak, but this change is just way overdue. My lady smokes too but I can't wait or let what she does affect me when it comes to smoking. No bad dreams, no sleep problems, no side effects, except I have no urge to smoke, and it's been much easier than I would have guessed based on previous tries.
I find keeping busy is really important, and breaking routines, which were triggers, like coffee and smoking early each day. I just sleep till I need to get up and go to work. No booze for a couple months either, after dinner is no problem for me wanting to smoke.
I loaded my schedule so I'm too busy to smoke, here is a sample:

I'm engaged, Planning a wedding
I'm starting my own company, Building websites and all the crap for a new business to run smooth
Current job is unstable
Fiance just moved in, all bachelor items are being removed- that's a sad thing, but change is good!
2 boats that need love, one is a huge project, the other just needs de-winterization and maybe some use!!
Repainting/remodeling entire house
Keeping my house and a rental, up and running, Linda's rented condo too.

I find that being busy is a really helpful tool to quit, avoiding triggers has been the biggest helper I can think of. And if you don't want to quit, you wont. I was ready mentally, physically, and financially. Would be nice to see Linda quit too, but I don't have any control over that. I wont let it affect me either.I'll report back in a few weeks maybe with more updates as I slow down on Chantix and continue saving my $ and life!

Greenbush out!

Worked for me and my wife. I quit the first day and my wife quit in 3 days and we were HEAVY smokers. Wife still vapes but I quit the ecigs after a year and have no desire to smoke or vape.

Heck, I'll take all the help I can get, including the big guy up there. Seems I only get small urges, and they come, and go, with no really long moments to ponder the idea of smoking again. Heck I figure I invested close to a month already, it would be waste of time to start again, throwing all that effort away. I no longer view myself as a smoker, and I like the sound of that.

Have you started to realize how much you weren't tasting or smelling when you smoked yet? I sure am.

I found the fidgeting habit lasts longer than the nicotine urge. The first time I quit I carried a pill bottle filled with toothpicks and it got me through it. Unfortunately after a couple of years a few nights in a bar got me addicted again. 5 years ago I quit for good with the help of a nicotine free ecig.
