Hi guys, Here I am with even more problems. On my Carver 2157 last year I noticed the stereo would cut out if the volume would be turned up even a little(I bought a new one thinking the stereo was messed up). Then I noticed the floodlight was dim as well as the cabin lights and I turned on the sink and it would run for like 2 seconds and shut off as well(like the stereo did). Batteries are charged full. I am wondering if it could be the main breaker failing? It seems like everything is running at half power.I am working on other projects(mid-bearings) but want to fix this problem as well while I am working on things so it is ready when I go into the water.By the way it doesn't matter if the engine is running or not.

This is sounding like major corrosion. How old is your boat? The reason I say that is because all of your DC circuits are showing signs of reduced voltage. Check the voltage at any of the 12V appliances versus the voltage you read across the batt terminals when the appliances are on.

Most boats over 10 years old will be showing signs of corrosion in their wiring...

Could be your ground or your main positive supply feed up to your helm.

With the spotlight on, measure the voltage drop between the main fuse panel and the positive post of the battery. Do the same for the ground. Measure the ground bus bar at your helm to the ground of the battery. This will show the drop in both legs so you can determine which side to focus on if not both.

Tighten up all connections. But my money is on the condition of the wiring...

The year of the boat is 1989, so yes it could be corrosion. I hope that would be the problem and not bigger electrical probs.

When you have corrosion throughout your harness, that IS a big electrical problem! It's not only the wires in your harness, it's all the wires on your switch panels, your breakers, the wiring going forward...
