Everything I touch breaks!

I am pulling gauges out to re-wire them up. I broke two of the brass studs/screw off on two different gauges:(. I rolled the bezel back on the ammeter and opened up the gauge. The brass stud is wound around the wires inside the gauge. So I'm screwed.

This 40 year old boat is rotten, so far I've lost the wiring, gauges, and the gas tank. Which was rotted out through the bottom due to the carpeting.

I need to replace the gauges now. I'm thinking of buying new. I see Faria and Teleflex. Is one better than the other?

Does anyone have any other advice?

One day I'll catch a break.

Yeah Don, luckily my stuff didn't set out in the weather too much so for now I'm getting by with the stock gauges. I do have a newer model temp gauge because my brother said he needed to replace the sending unit and the newer repalcments wouldn't match with the old gauge.

Having that one odd gauge really bugs me but I'm running it this year. I'm focusing on boating instead of all the little crap that I want to do to the boat.

You're probably better off that you're forced to swap out the gauges now while you have it all apart.

As far as Teleflex vs Faria----Ford vs Chevy:D

Well as long as I don't get impatient I'll be ok. I'm going to pull out the old 12 foot flatbottom and start using it again. This Starcraft won't be wet for a while.

My light resto ain't so light. If I splash by September I'll be happy. This is supposed to be fun. I need to remove the self imposed deadlines and relax. I really like tinkering with old stuff. The only thing that stresses me out is HAVING to spend more money.

They never do. He!! I don't like it! Luckily I don't know what tragedy befalls me next. In a way that's better. Now I think after I fix the gauges and wiring I'm good to go. Not knowing the motor has a rod knock in it, is better for me.:p

Trim pump, outdrive, motor what's next. Leaky rivet just came up on the wheel of fortune:eek:.

When restoring an old boat not having a crystal ball is a big plus. Now having one before would be helpful, after the fact, that's just torturous.

Thank goodness I have a support group.
